OK, it’s time for the Raiders to jump into the Anquan Boldin sweepstakes.
According to ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, the Arizona Cardinals are looking for a second-round pick, as well as other compensation, in exchange for the productive wide receiver.
The Cardinals had been asking for the moon, the sky, a pizza pie, as well as a first-round and third-round pick, before they lowered their demand.
Given the Raiders likely are targeting a receiver draft in the first or second round Saturday, it makes sense to consider trading for Boldin instead.
He is signed for two more years at a reasonable salary, though he does want a restructured contract wherever he lands. The Raiders could get a jump on having a successful draft by securing a known commodity such as Boldin for so little in return.
From there, the Raiders could focus on other needs with their first-, third-, fourth- and seventh-round selections.
The Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens reportedly also are interested in Boldin, though none has a second-rounder as high as Oakland’s No. 40.
Running back Justin Fargas, quarterback Andrew Walter or even Javon Walker could be used as part of the trade package. The Cardinals need help at running back and Walter played his college ball at Arizona State. Walker could pass as a serviceable player until the Cardinals find someone else to replace Boldin.

do it and draft raji in the first round
I’d rather have Braylon Edwards, younger, taller, more of a deep threat and home run hitter. The Raiders would be foolish not to trade for Braylon Edwards, because he’s a pro-bowl type of Wr, that is going to have 6 good yrs. Boldin is one of the best slot wr in the game, but he tends to get injuried and doesn’t fit what the Raiders need, which is the deep post route, which Edwards can run. Boldin would be a good fit in the WCO, but Higgins has the potential to be the slot wr. Russell needs a weapon that can get down the field, so he can use his best strength, which is his arm.
The reason the Raiders won’t make a move for Boldin or Edwards is the same as most teams. Not the compensation to the players former team, the payment to the player himself. $10 million is too much to pay for either one of these two. If you don’t pay then they will be just as unhappy here as where they are now!
Perfect Do it AL!
Boldin a slot receiver? No. Injury prone? Yes. He also won’t play a down with a new team without a new contract. The Raiders are fairly cap strapped going into the draft, and the No. 7 pick is sure to eat up a bit of that cap space. Edwards has horrible hands, so I wouldn’t consider paying him that much either.
Im sorry but I say oakland should make a move on boldin if crabtree is gone by the time we pick , ca mon people our WR suck! Yeah we need defense and maybe a OT but seriously we need a wideout bad to see if Russell can do the job ,if they don’t want to give russell a wideout then what was the purpose drafting him ???? Any QB can handoff! ….lets get russell a target and see what he can do ! If not FuK it Trade Michael Bush and our 2nd rd pik and go after boldin or Ocho cinco …. and lates face ocho cinco had a poor year last year cause he was not happy ….the man can ball not only that ,,imagine being at the oakland game and chad scoring a TD in the black hole and celebrating …the stadium would go NUTs! ! ,,,,,,RUSSELL NEEDS A WIDEOUT!
If Russell don’t get a target ! Then next years draft we will be talking about ..” Lets draft Sam Bradford or Tim Teabow !! !
man the raiders would be nuts not to offer up something at least for either one of them. Both are proven, Anquan is more tougher, but Braylon is younger. Also, if Boldin can be had for that, then lets get Chad here then. He’s a heck of a lot cheaper so we wont be strapped paying $10 million to Boldin, and we can get a OT the first round, folowed by a DT the 2nd round, or vice versa depending on your view, I prefer DT first, buts thats me! And for those saying Chad doesn’t have it anymore, or he lost a step, they said the same thing about Moss, and even though Chads not Moss, he could have a huge impact on this team, on the field as well as in the stands for the fans who like myself has been starving for some wins around here. We just got rid of another AFC West nemesis is Gonzalez, nows the time to take back our division, and these could be major steps in doing it!!!
Do this in a minute.I don’t like Crabtree and feel we need a LT and a DT before we need a head case of a WR.Maybe i will be wrong on Crabtree but something tells me buyer beware.Boldin all day i would give up the 7th pick for him are you.
Braylon dropped too many passes last year for me to give up a 1st.
If you draft Maclin or Crabtree at #7 they will be assured of close to 20-25 million dollars. You are not saving any money by drafting one of them.
Plus, neither of these guys will contribute much more then 35 catches. They are going to struggle because; (1) all rookie WRs struggle. Calvin Johnson struggled as a rookie and he is head and shoulders better then either of these guys. (2) Spread WRs as a rule take longer to learn route trees and a real playbook then WRs who played in more traditional offenses.
The notion that either will be cheaper then an elite WR is wrong. The notion that you doing more then adding another young WR is folly. JR is more likely to get more help from McFadden, Higgens and Walker then a Crabtree or Maclin in 2009. In fact all you would be getting for the 2009 season in Maclin is the most expensive kick returner in the NFL
The drop passes with Braylon Edwards is an idiotic stat. He has a large catch radius. He gets his hands on balls that 95% of the WRs in the NFL would never even take a stab at.
TO drops a lot of passes also. Larry Fiztgerald was third or fourth in the NFL in drops.
All dropped passes are not created equal.
To prefer two guys who might not even be able to get off press coverage over two guys who have made the Pro Nowl makes zero sense.
Edwards does not have horrible hands.
boldin is probably going to the Ravens, cause they will throw in Todd Heap, Edwards is probably going to the Giants from what they are saying here in Ohio, so lets get Chad. Who cares what Marvin Lewis is saying, something is better than nothing. They saying Burgess may be going to Carolina or Philly, lets give up something for a receiver who can play, plays hard, is proven and wont cost 10 mil. a year like Boldin, possibly Edwards, and any receiver we pick at 7. Trade for Chad, draft Andre Smith and then take Brace in the 2nd, and we are well on our way nation!!
I’ll take that ,drafte andre smith and trade for chad ! OMG that would be nice …. our offense needs some impact and a wideout will do that …im tired of going 2 the games and we can’t score LOL…it sucks…..
Massillonraider I love post but I wouldn’t give away a warm cup of spit for Ron Brace. We have him in triplicate already.
Big, slow, zero lateral quickness. Essentially a 330 pound slug. We got that guy and we are paying two of the slugs like Pro-Bowlers.
Use that second rounder on a young pass rusher to replace Burgess.
F**k no you are retard provo Ochoa cinco sucks ass trade for boldin for farges and a second round pick and still draft crabtree then let’s see what jamarcuss can do if he still can’t doo shit then we f**king cut his ass and look for jeff garcia to come in till we can sign kyle boller
Do not draft a WR in the top 10.
And you sound like thos fans that bitch sit down I can’t see the game.well if you wanna sit down all game go across the bay u pussy niner fan
And you sound like thos fans that bitch sit down I can’t see the game.well if you wanna sit down all game go across the bay u pussyniner fan

we dont need a LT.. Mario Henderson is our LT.. he held 3 of the top DRs sackless.. or did people forget this? seems kinda funny just as Henderson takes over for Harris.. we start scoring points.. seems pretty friggin simple to me.. but hey.. ESPN says we need a LT.. so out come the parrots
Great point Tomycar…”so out come the parrots”…HAHA! Classic.
I think it is very unlikely that the Raiders send their 2nd round pick for Boldin. Boldin wants in the neigherhood of $10,000,000 per year. While at first glance its sounds good, only a second round pick for Boldin, but its actually going to cost a whole lot more.
I’m not so sure the Raiders can afford the #7 overall pick in addition to Boldin. The #7 pick is going to cost almost $10 million per year and Boldin’s $10 million per year would most likely put the Raiders in salary cap trouble.
Is the #7 overall pick (whoever we select) and Boldin together really worth $20 per season?
I meant $20 million in my last paragraph.
ok first off to say fargas or walker would be apart of the trade is dumb. second they wont trade either after re-working their contract. the cap hit alone from a trade of either would kill any room that they have created. walter coud be thrown in or huff seeing how the cap hit would be minimal. compared to the other two and we need fargas. i know everyone thinks oh lets trade him but we had to use three backs last year. dose anyone think all three wont get banged up again this coming year. running back is a brutal position and you need horses to carry that load. draft raji if you can get boldin get him with your second with huff (doubting walter has any real value).
I’d say do the deal, for Boldin, or Edwards.
Boldin is worth our #1 when/if you consider who we are looking at drafting IRT WR’s. Crabtree/Macln are not proven, Boldin is and not sure why we are calling him “injury prone”, he has been in the league a few yrs and has missed minimum games. Had his face blown apart last year and still got back to help get his team to the SB as a unhappy #2 WR. This guy is a gamer and we should look hard at giving up a #2 for him. Chad is just another Moss and as soon as times get tough he will quit! Trade down to “Sanchez Wanters” in the 1st and lets get going!
is everyone forgetting that 2010 is an uncapped year? we can sign a #7 pick, and boldin for a lot of money and still be under the cap for this year and then restructure a lot of players to receive bonuses nect year with no penalty to the cap. it’s pretty simple and if the organization can’t see it then i’m disappointed. the conference crabtree played in had no defenses that could keep up with ANYBODY. crabtree has an attitude problem and he’s still unproven. trade burgess or fargas and our 2nd for boldin and draft Raji. get rid of walter and burgess/fargas for more picks…period.
I BET CHAZ AND HIGG’S ARE THINKING GET ME A FUKN QB IN HERE THAT CAN GET ME THE BALL. EVERYBODY ACTS LIKE ARE WRS SUCK. RUSSELL HAS FAILED TO MAKE THE THROWS HES SUPPOSSED TO MAKE. PLUS HE JUST FALLS DOWN AND DROPS THE BALL ON HIS OWN WAY TOO MUCH. UNTIL HE CAN PROVE HE CAN MAKE THE TIMING THROWS AND HIT THE TIGHT SEAMS CONSISTENTLEY I DONT CARE WHO ARE WRS ARE, WE AINT GONA HAVE A PASSING GAME. PLENTY OF QBS HAVE MADE WRS LOOK GOOD. ALL YOU ACT LIKE THE BOLDINS,EDWARDS, AND CINCO’S GET 10 YARD SEPERATION AND ARE JUST WIDE OPEN. LOOK AT ALL THE GOOD WRS IN THE LEAGUE AND LOOK AT THEIR QB. MOST ALL HAVE PRO BOWL TYPE QBS THAT CAN GET THE BALL TO ANYBODY! AND DONT SAY ITS CAUSE THEY HAVE GOOD WRS CAUSE LEINART DIDNT DO SHIT WITH FITZ AND BOLDIN. WE HAD MOSS AND DIDNT DO SHIT. EDWARDS DIDNT DO SHIT LAST YEAR W/O A QB. OCHCO AND HOUSH DIDNT DO MUCH W/O A QB.
spookyraider….thank you! someone finally puts it all into perspective. higgins and schillens are not that bad, russell is just not that good (right now) and he’s not helping them out by chucking balls 4 rows deep behind the visitor’s bench.
do we need a solid wide receiver, probably. is the answer braylon edwards? i don’t think so. dude drops too many balls. and to those who said all drops aren’t created equal…..drops are drops. edwards has dropped balls that no professional at the nfl level should be dropping.
and to add…..internet rumors abound that there’s some kind of “surprise pick coming in the top ten” (which is no stretch to put that in writing in regards to the nfl draft), and it could be harvin or heyward-bey to the raiders at #7.
good point spook, warner has got to be the most accurate passer in the league, he could make my grandma look like shes worth 10 mill
BOLDIN, clap, clap…BOLDIN, clap, clap…what time is it?
