The Raiders signed linebacker Morion Greewood and released defensive end Derrick Gray.
Greenwood, 31, has played for the Miami Dolphins and the Houston Texans during his eight-year NFL career. He was released by the Texans in February.
Greenwood, 6-foot and 253 pounds, played for the Texans the past four seasons. He is a versatile player who has started in the middle and at the strong-side position.
The Raiders are looking at Jon Alston and Ricky Brown for the strong-side spot in training camp. Alston is out with a left foot injury. Brown also is competing against Kirk Morrison for the starting job in the middle.
Greenwood is the kind of player who could step in right away and start for the Raiders if coach Tom Cable views him as a better option than Alston and Brown.
Cable said Sunday that the Raiders signed Greenwood as an insurance policy in case Isaiah Ekejiuba is out longer than expected with a dislocated left shoulder.
Ekejiuba’s primary role is that of a core special-teams player. Greenwood has experience on special teams, too. He played in 125 of 128 games during his eight-year NFL career.

Great pick up. Raiders r headed in the right direction. Greenwood is a good tackler and will bring speed and leadership to our defense.
More depth the better. if only we could find a DT.

I think making sands an offensive lineman would be a good try, he’s a big man, too big to play DT, stands up too much, we really need a DT soon, gotta stop the run baby.
I’m glad the ones making the decisions aren’t those on here who wanted Brooks. Brooks was a great player for many seasons but the key is he WAS. I would much rather have a 31 year old Greenwood than a 36 year old Brooks. Not to mention Brooks has primarily played the Weak side and I don’t think he’s a better option than Howard.
We definitely need 2 beef up our d-line with a dt, but lets talk about that waste of a signing in Javon Walker. This guy iz a waste of money.Alwayz hurt, has no heart we need 2 release this bum,Walker was the worse signing in the past couple of yearz.Al must of been smokin somethin when he signed him. The young talent we have at WR now allows us to release this waste of money.
I agree with velarderaideraz, he hasn’t been the same since he got the crap beat out of him in Vegas.

According to reports, Walker has looked and moved better than he has in the last several years. I, for one, really wanna see what a 100% Javon Walker looks like cuz I haven’t seen it. Every week I hear that the Raiders need to sign a Dt which i dont disagree with or without. But who is out there? I know Shaun Smith is but he is a walking time bomb something that the Raiders worked really hard to rid themselves with. I know Vonnie Holliday but undersized and old as hell. So Who else statnds out.
i think most people here are lobbying for a trade for a DT. there are a few that are unhappy with their contracts and we have the cap room.

The only problem iz Jevon won’t ever b healthy, he has the mind set 2 give very little and get paid 4 it. Besides no contract in the NFL iz guaranteed,only the signing bonus,so they can cut him any time. When he signed 4 a certain amount of years and total $$$$amount.Only a certain $$$$ amount iz guaranteed.
We do have great depth at WR and I would like to see if Walker can finally show something for what the dummy cost us but as soon as he doesn’t produce I say move him back in the depth chart and start Chaz, Murphy, and DHB. Murphy seems a good fit and you see what happened when the boys double teamed DHB, Chaz was open every time. Higgins is good but I like the way Miller played the first game much better and I think his speed and size is better for returning punts. I’d rather keep our picks and make good use of them next year with a good draft class coming up. We can trade Fargas and a pick then as well to move up and get a great young run stopper who will be with us for a while.
