According the the National Football Post, Oakland defensive assistant coach Randy Hanson was injured in an altercation with another member of the team’s coaching staff on August 5th, according to police report filed with the Napa Police Dept.
Now, according to FanHouse’s Nancy Gay, the attacker was none other than head coach Tom Cable. Gay quotes only “unnamed NFL sources,” so it remains unconfirmed by anyone within the Raiders organization.
Raiders players chanted, “Cable, Bumaye” during stretching exercises before practice today. The “Bumaye” chant is the pro-Ali chant made famous in Zaire for the Muhammad Ali-George Foreman fight in 1974. Bumaye means: “kill him.”
Napa police responded when Hanson arrived at the Queen of the Valley Hospital to receive treatment for an injured jaw.
Hospitals are required to contact police anytime someone comes in with an assault-type crime.
According to Napa Police Lt. Brian McGovern, the victim, Hanson, said the assault occurred the previous day at the Raiders training camp facility.
Hanson refused to identify the the member of the staff that assaulted him. X-rays were taken of Hanson’s jaw. If the jaw is broken, felony charges could be filed.
Hanson is the assistant that previous head coach Lane Kiffin suspended last season for “personal issues.” Managing general partner Al Davis backed Hanson in that conflict.
Raiders executive John Herrera told the media that, “It is an internal matter and it will be handled as such.”
Cable refused to comment on the matter when asked repeatedly by the media in attendance at practice Monday. However, he told ESPN’s Mark Schlereth awhile later that no punches were thrown and “nothing happened.”
Former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that a “reliable source” told him that Hanson sustained a broken facial bone as a result of him hitting his cheek on a cabinet after Cable flipped him out of his chair in a meeting room.
Jeremiah added that Cable flipped over Hanson’s chair when Hanson spoke in a harsh manner toward defensive coordinator John Marshall.

Not a fan of turmoil within the Nation, but it’s good too see a little fire going on. I recently read a report that stated it was not a punch to the jaw, but a flipped chair resulting in a jaw injury. Hopefully this won’t disrupt the new attitude Cable has been installing once again. Cable commands respect, good to see we have a man running the show once again!
i think it’s great for the raiders players.what more could you want as a player of a violent game,to have your head coach taking command of a franchise that is supposedly non consistent with keeping it’s coaches long term.if i was a raider on the field,i would play a little harder with the attitude that my head coach would result to violence because he cares so much about getting the organization back to the playoffs.on the other hand, maybe hanson is saying to these coaches that he feels as AL DAVIS does, that the raiders are fine with the DL’s that we already have and do not need to upgrade the DL or bring pressure without having to blitz.
i posted some time ago that the raiders coaches seemed to be working together real well, but i guess that was wrong.
