BROWN, RICE, GANNON AND WIZ NOMINATED FOR PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME

Modern-Era Nominees for the Class of 2010

Wide receivers Tim Brown and Jerry Rice, quarterback Rich Gannon and guard Steve Wisniewski are among the former Raiders greats nominated for induction into the 2010 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Overall, there are more than 10 former Raiders who are among the preliminary nominations. The entire list of nominees is below, as well as the press release from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

CANTON, Ohio – The National Football League’s all-time leading receiver Jerry Rice and all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith are among the list of 131 players, coaches and contributors who make up the preliminary list of modern-era nominees for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2010. Rice and Smith are two of the seven first-year eligible candidates on this year’s list of nominees.

From this preliminary list of modern-era nominees, Hall of Fame selectors will choose 25 candidates who will advance as semifinalist nominees.  The list of 25 modern-era semifinalists will be announced on November 27.

The 25 modern-era semifinalists list will be reduced by a mail ballot to 15 modern-era finalists that will be announced on January 7.

The final list of nominees that will be considered for election will consist of the 15 modern-era finalists and the two previously announced senior nominees, former Detroit Lions cornerback Dick LeBeau and former Denver Broncos running back Floyd Little.  LeBeau and Little were selected this past August by the Hall of Fame’s Senior Selection Committee.

The Class of 2010 will be selected from the list of 17 finalists (15 modern-era and two senior nominees).  The actual voting will be conducted at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee’s annual meeting, which will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in South Florida the day before Super Bowl XLIV.  The election results will be announced immediately afterwards.  While there is no set number for any class of enshrinees, the selection process by-laws provide that between four and seven new members will be selected.

The preliminary list includes 103 players, 10 coaches and 18 contributors, including former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and longtime team owners Bud Adams, and Art Modell.  The other first-year eligible nominees are kicker Gary Anderson, wide receiver Tim Brown, quarterback Rich Gannon, running back Eddie George, and cornerback/safety Aeneas Williams.

To be considered for Hall of Fame election, a nominated player or coach must have been retired at least five years.  A contributor, who is an individual who has made outstanding career contributions to pro football in capacities other than playing or coaching, may still be active in his pro football career.

I’m gonna guess…. Jim Plunkett and Tom Flores?? I’m tired of the bias against the Raiders. RAY GUY SHOULD GO THROUGH!!!
    Also Lester Hayes

  4. r8r ed says:

    CLIF BRANCH won 3 superbowls.

  5. destroySD says:

plunk, flores, branch, martin, stabler and guy are all gunna hafta wait to be selected by the senior committee because those biased ass “journalists” arent ever gunna put em in. each one of them should all ready be in. dan fouts is already in, how many super bowls did he play in??? ZERO. the selection group should be made up of hof members, not clowns that never played the game.

  6. Diablo says:

No way Ray Guy shouldn’t be in the HOF, poor Lechler probably won’t go either and everyone knows he’s the best punter in the NFL for the past decade. Stabler,Branch,Plunkett, and certainly Brown should all be there.

  7. mpoles says:

You should have Montoya in bold too!

  8. Oak14nd says:

  9. raiderpapi says:

Tom Flores, Jim Plunkett, Ray Guy, Cliff Branch, Ken Stabler, Lester Hayes, Todd Christensen, Steve Wisniewski, all should be in the hall of fame by now.
If they won’t open the door, then we should kick it open!
Wex, let’s use you’r site to start a campaign to sign up supporters for these players and send an open letter to the hall of fame commity to give them what they deserve.

  10. pcblack says:

tim brown shouldbe a lock, but this is a strong class..maybe with the raiders haters in the media he might have to wait a year like chris carter did…….pc

  11. pcblack says:

Alao wheres the sense in having guys who never played,f-in wanna be sports writers like rome, etc. do the voting? Why not leave it to ex players, etc……….pc

  12. jaykay says:

You might want to put Ron Wolf in bold as well. After all, he was only with the Raiders for 24 years!

  13. ernie72 says:

#81 Tim Brown should be a lock, I still can’t figure out why Plunkett and coach Flores are not in there yet, but Dan Fouts is? WOW, fuck …..Jack Tatum shoud be in……GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. insanity20mike says:

I always wanted and wondered if one day Rich Gannon would atleast get a chance to make the HOF. Im glad he atleast is getting his name in there.. If only we wouldve won the SB37 he may have had a better shot.. But without a SB ring.. it will hurt him.

  15. destroySD says:

petitioning doesnt work. for anything. just makes you feel like you are a part of something. no, theres no way to change this sadly. were gunna keep getting shafted. although it still amazes me that they let AL in! as for the assassin, theyl never let him in, i think he should be in, but the way him and atkinson played, theyl forever be hated on.
BRANCH & FLORES IN HOF NOW!
