“I don’t think we could’ve beat an Oakland high school team today,” said defensive lineman Richard Seymour.
Once you get over the sheer audacity of statistics the aftermath of the lose becomes the fact coach Cable has finally opened Pandora’s box and benched starting quarterback JaMarcus Russell.
“He was really out of sorts early in the game,” Cable said. “In the first play of the game he could not get the formation lined up the right way, and then they drop into quarters when it should just be a check down to the back, kinda holding it and looking down field and he shouldn’t be there. And then the two interceptions, first one, no reason for that and the second one really just kind of threw it up. So I just did not feel like at that point he gave us the best chance to have the success we needed to have offensively and made the move.”
Russell did not see it the same way as his head coach. When asked if he felt out of sorts Russell replied:
“Actually I wasn’t. The first interception was a matter of a guy coming across my face and getting to the spot. I tried to get it down but it was too late. As far as the second one, I thought I gave the guy a chance to make a play on the ball. As far as what I was seeing. I didn’t see him come down with it. The ball in the air had a 50-50 chance, we just didn’t come up with it.”
Being able to get the formation lined up on the first play of the game sounds like something that should be expected by the player picked first overall in the draft. It is as fundamental as three step drops and looking off safeties. Cable made sure to say the Russell is still the quarterback of the Raiders but the overwhelming question is why?
Russell has committed 13 turnovers and completed just 46 percent of his passes in a horrific start to his third NFL season.
Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski did not get into the endzone with the limited chances he had, but the offense moved better in his five offensive series gaining 139 yard to the 124 yards gained in Russell’s five series. Three drops by wide receivers hurt drives by Gradkowski, including the dropped touchdown by wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey who felt he was fouled on the play.
“I’ve got to make that play,” said Heyward-Bey. “I argued the call but at the end of the day, the ball’s in the air, I’ve got to come down with it.”
The Jets running game made any thoughts of a comeback obsolete. Having there second straight 300 yard rushing game in a row, having accomplished the same feat in an overtime loss the Buffalo Bills last week.
Third string running back Shonn Greene ran for 144 yards and two scores, Thomas Jones had 121 on 26 carries as the Jet totaled 316 on the ground.
“I thought it was a great team effort,” Jets head coach Rex Ryan said. “You know, this is a big physical front seven and we were able to ground and pound it, back-t0-back weeks of over 300 yards. I don’t think that’s been done since 1960. Obviously really proud of that. It just shows you the kind of offensive line we have and the kind of depth we have at the running back. Again we feel terrible about the injury to Leon, [Washington out for season with a broken right fibula] but we’re excited at where our offense is at, the way we are running the football. I thought we did a great job of protecting the football on offense. We had four take aways on defense and no turnovers on offense. It just feels good, quite honestly, to get a win.”
Defensive end Greg Ellis was asked if people are going to think the Eagle game was an aberration.
“Well today obviously that’s how people are gonna’ feel because we didn’t play good football and this team has just got to learn, said Ellis. “We have got to learn as a team that you can’t have a successful game and then just relax on that one, thinking everything is just going to be okay. You’ve gotta’ realize, after you win a game or you playing a game well, teams are going to be gunning for you. The Jets came in here, and I’m pretty sure their coach told them, ‘You know hey, don’t get confused. These guys are turning it around. They just beat the Philadelphia Eagles, so we got to really hunker down.’ And they did, and we didn’t.”
The Raiders are looking forward to the return of left guard Robert Gallery, right tackle Cornell Green, wide receiver Chaz Schilens and running back Darren McFadden but will it be enough to turn around the dismal season? At 2-5 the Raiders are about two losses away from just playing out the string as the playoffs become mathematical impossibility.
At some point Cable has to start to worry about his own job security, managing general partner Al Davis wants certain young players to play but at what cost? Can receivers Johnnie Lee Higgins or Javon Walker outplay Heyward-Bey? Do one of the backup quarterbacks, Gradkowski or Charlie Frye give the Raiders a better chance to win games or come back in games that they go down by more than six points? It is important to be loyal and tow the company line, but the lopsided defeats are becoming the norm on Cables watch and it is going to take more than good practice to get over this loss.

ok. I started talking to this girl at work 2months ago and we are now good friends. I wanted to ask her for her number so we could hang out sometime but I never man-up to it and before I knew it, time passed me by again.
Anyways, on Wed. I wet her hand and she responded and threw a bit of water on my face and landed on my right eye. “Aww, Did I make you cry?” she said. I laughed.. and she proceeded with cleaning my face with her hand. then yesterday when again we saw each other.. she told me “is my tongue green?” from cake frosting. she showed me her tongue and then closed her mouth and said “how about now?” “What about my teeth?” in all this she would open her mouth and show me her tongue and all ( I was just 10ft away from her doing my job). So I walked up to her and said “How does it taste?” Then she asked me if I wanted a taste and If I didnt mind for her to spoon feed me from the fork she was using. I said “No problem. I dont mind” She then got the fork and fed the small piece of cake to my mouth.
Now, I really like her as a friend(since she is the only person i feel comfortable talking to) But im wondering if I was to ask her for her number would she get offended and thing weird of me? I wont see her again until next fri. I only see her 2-3 times a wk for a 2-3hrs. so I need to take advantage of the short time and make my move and get her number. I just think too much and dont do anything. she isnt like this with any of the other guys. We work at a fast food place while we go to school. Im afraid if I invite her out she will bring her friends. and that will take the fun away. What should I do? Is she just being friendly becuase she likes me and is nice to me, or is there more? what can I do to show her that Im interested. something that any girl can get this idea “that guy likes me”

I was at the game, and I indeed think I am owed a refund by the team. It was just flat out shameful. On the last touchdown I cancelled my beer order because I didn’t want to give this organization another dime. Raider fan for life, but c’mon man you have to draw the line somewhere.
On the upside, the most fun I did have at the game was the numerous chances to boo J.Russ.

I can’t believe that 39,000 people actually wastes the time and money to watch that garbage. Last year I sat on my tickets and just took the loss since I couldn’t even give them away. Why anybody would go watch this team try to play and fill Al’s pockets is beyond me
Turns out that I invested my sunday time well. Just found out about the game. Hung out with my family and did not think or hear about the raiders until just now….and wish this sunday could have been longer.Gonna go have sex now and NOT think about the raiders some more.

Was it me or did i really see energy comming from the offense today after Gradkowski went in, one mistake on the fumble but he was really tring to make something happen, I wish DHB could hold on to the ball, maybe that would help keep JBUST on the bench, i still don’t understand why JL Higgins is riding the bench he should be starting with Murphy!!
Can anyone tell me if the Defense was as aggressive this week as they were against the Eagles? I am very curious as to if Al told the coaches to knock that blitzing down a notch as it doesn’t look like they had much pressure on Sanchez at all.

There is just no fight or passion with this team. The defense cannot overcome all of the offensive mistakes game after game after game. And JaBustus keeps on insisting he’s making the right reads and the turnovers are never his fault.
Please give Grads or Frye first team reps this week and sit fat ass until he understands the actual game of football. Sorry to say, but Al needs to cut his losses (again) and let JaBustus waddle away with a trunk full of cash.

Every week it seems we all dig a little deeper to find a positive, any positive with this team. I love the Raiders til I die but we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel here, the O got fired up when Grad came in? Sure, and then what. NOTHING. NOTHING again. I think Seymour is right. Skyline, Tech or Berkeley High could have come in there and beaten them. No joke.
I hope we all will look back on this as the “dark time” and will be able to cheer again here in Oakland. OAKLAND Raiders fo’ever.

Nation, my mind is going fuck’n crazy just asking why? Every week it’s why and how? I’m just going to go on and talk about next year’s draft. Just wondering, does j.russ have any trade value for a 6th and 7th round draft pick? If so, that would be great considering we make better draft selections in later rounds. Bullshit aside, we need this dude out. I kind of like bradford after his surgery, he’s smart, accurate and talented. Can we trade heyward bey and javon as package deal for 2nd & 5th round picks? Again, I’m over asking why? This season is and was and all I can hope for now is a little progress from the young guys.
Coaching…or lack of it….or lack of being ALLOWED to coach is the problem. They should have told JaFATASS he must lose 30 pounds or he is cut at the end of last year. Maybe drug test his ass as well, he seems a little SLOW in his decision making and is a bit FAT so ……..

So now we’ve seen that Gradkowski can move the ball 15 yards farther and have less turnovers. An improvement but not gonna help get us win. Let’s give Grad another shot when he’s not down by as many points and the defense is playing a little more inspired to see what he can do. If no improvement, give Frye a look. Either way Russell needs to figure out if he wants to be a QB in this league and start putting in the work to get there. Maybe his view from the sidelines will help him get there.
We also need to get some wide receivers in there who can make a play for whatever QB is in there. Murphy has been a good rookie, but he can’t catch in traffic. All his catches came when there was nobody around him. When in traffic he drops it.
Heyward-Bey, what can I say, how about catch the TD pass instead of bitching about not getting a flag. Better yet, try catching the ball with your hands and not letting it bounce off your chest. Even his catches he lets get to his chest and cradles it.
The reason that the Raiders didn’t bring as much pressure is because the Jets were running the ball. Jets were rarely in 3rd and long giving the D an opportunity to bring pressure. You all saw what happened when the Raiders stacked the line. People were missing their gaps and long runs were the result. I like Morrison but he seems to be out of position an awful lot.
I usually try to stay positive but it’s getting hard. There are many problems on this team and I can only hope there will be significant changes after the bye week. The way the Chargers whooped up on the Chiefs doesn’t make next week look too promising.
Anyone notice if we were wearing our throwbacks? Tells you all we have to know about Al and his team. No changes in the last 50 years, same O, same D, same uniforms, same owner. Even the broncos have kyle orton not the best QB just smart w/the ball. Trent Dilfer was horrible too but smart w/the ball. I think gradowski or fry give us a much better chance. gradowski got more yardage yes and maybe most of it was cause the jets can effectively go into prevent D unlike us.
Well now that I know Cable errr Al said Jruss is still the starter im sure the rest of the team is just spewing confidence on how we will go to San Diego and put the beat down on them.I really hope that they do make the adjustment at qb before the game and not at the end kinda gives ya a fighting chance to stay in the game.

It only took one game for me to see that we screwed up by not getting Crabtree….his hands are remarkable and he is lethal after catching the ball. He looks 100 times better than DHB…………….wow, we really F’d up by passing on him.
Also, how can DHB complain about the “no-call” on that fade route ball he clearly, clearly dropped. He had perfect position, it hit him right in the hands????? what a joke.
