The bye week should be a quiet time for teams to heal and get ready for the second half push for the playoffs. Raiders bye week usually is never that simple.
Last year, Lane Kiffin was fired during the bye week, setting the stage for the the Tom Cable Era. This year’s bye week started off with Cable facing accusations of domestic abuse stemming from an ESPN report on “Outside The Lines.” The National Organization for Women is calling for the Raiders to suspend Cable during the team’s investigation of the allegations from Cable’s first wife, Sandy, and a recent girlfriend.
Cable already had his hands full entering the bye week with a 2-6 record and the worst offense in the league. If managing general partner Al Davis needed any reasons to start a coaching search, he certainly didn’t need to look very far.
But nothing happened. There is nothing to report out of Alameda today. It appears as if Cable’s job is safe for now. He will have the second half of the season to show that injuries were the primary reason for the disappointing start, as he and many players claim.
The anticipated return of left guard Robert Gallery, wide receiver Chaz Schilens, right offensive tackle Cornell Green and kick returner/wide receiver Nick Miller all are due to take place after the bye week, against the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 15 at the Oakland Coliseum.
The fact that the Raiders did not fire Cable at any point this week, shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Firing a coach in midseason rarely has the desired effect on a team. Many quality coaches won’t accept a job as a mid-season replacement.

10-6 and playoffs baby! JUST WIN BABY!
keep dreaming buddy…. were not making the playoffs till Al Davis is six feet under everyone knows that.
“Playoffs???? Did you say playoffs????”
(Jim Mora flashback)
So it really has come to this…”no news is good news”
The once proud and mighty are now satisfied when we don’t take a step backwards. Hey everybody!!! Let’s celebrate the fact that we won’t lose this week!!!
How many of you out there are looking forward to the Washington game?
I agree with 10-6, maybe 9-7 at worst
man that would be nice… if you don’t wanna hear positive comments about the raiders, find a chargers or patriots site to read!
i’m with you max and montreal! hoping for the best for the silver and black!
Positive is great if its within reason….I could be positive I would knock out George Foreman in his prime but…since I weigh only 180 lbs I think reality would set in pretty quick once I got in the ring and started throwing punches.
I am also positive I can drop JaFatus, but he’s bigger than me, but believe me all I need is one punch, this clown will be eating the turf like the football on one of his many incomplete passes, after I knock him out, he will say he did a great job blocking that upper cut……the way I see it ..
4-12 if we’re lucky, and dont give me that shit about not having faith, or not being a “real Raider Fan” don’t underestimate the heart of a Raider Nation Fan…..GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE GUYS, 8 MORE GAMES LEFT OF THE JAWHOPPER ERA, FTP, FTP, FUCK THAT PUTO, LIKE SETH ON SUPER BAD SAYS, HE SHOULD BE SUCKING ON MY BALL SACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our run game should be a lot better now that Gallery is back.Lets see how the 2nd half of our season goes….
GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Positivity and optimism is a good thing. There’s been several good signs showing, and there’s talent and promise for the future. Henderson has improved into a legit starter, Satele is finally catching on and Gallery is coming back.. With an improved O-line, perhaps we’ll be able to run the ball a bit more consistantly, and if we could just make use of our three headed monster, i think we’ll be fine! Fargas has shown his talent for hardnosed football once again, and if Dmac could be used a bit more as reciever, and some times in the wild cat, we’d be ballin! Chaz, Hey-bey and Murphy are all talented and promising recievers with big play potential, and if the run game works, the line can block and give J-Russ some time and confidence, hey, it might all work out great! Let’s be realistic - we ain’t getting a ring this year, but as dhbfan says, let’s see how the next half pans out! A lot of playmakers on offense, and with some key complementarys in the off season, we might be in for a run next year! Defence is coming on (except Routt, he really needs to improve!!!), and if the offense starts to ball, then it might all come together to be what we all hope and root for! Commitment to Excellence, Raider Nation for ever!
I think that 10-6 or 9-7 is a pipe dream. At this point, I’d be pretty damned happy to finish it out with a 4-4 second half. I believe we have the TALENT to do much better (except for the fat fuck behind center), but I just can’t see a winning attitude appearing overnight, and even if it does, keep in mind that we’re still going to be using this dead 1975 offensive/defensive scheme and game plan.
Remember the 7 P’s -
Piss Poor Planning Promotes Piss Poor Performance
Until we get major change in the management of the franchise, both on and off the field, I’m afraid we’re just going to keep chasing our tails, with not much to look forward to but another long string of 5-11 and 6-10 seasons ahead.
I don’t see the playoffs this year, but I still feel the team can improve. It is the halfway point and the team is getting healthy going into the second half. I think 7-9 or 8-8 are possible if the team can pull it all together. Either record is a definite improvement over the recent seasons we have had.
