Well, it appears as if you can scratch off former Raiders coach Jon Gruden from any wish list.
The ESPN “Monday Night Football” analyst has inked a multi-year extension to stay on with the broadcasting team, according to an Internet report. Terms of the contract were not released.
“Working with Mike, [Ron Jaworski] and our entire ‘Monday Night Football’ team is the most fun I have had in years, and I am fired up to make this long-term commitment to ESPN,” Gruden said in a statement released by ESPN. ” ‘Monday Night Football’ is special, and I look forward to remaining a part of it and continuing to call these great games.”
Gruden’s name had been linked to just about every high-profile job opening in both the NFL and college ranks. He coached the Raiders from 1998-2001 and guided them to the playoffs his final two seasons.

That’s not a big surprise since everything else that can go wrong for us does. Surely he saw nothing positive in Oakland and I can’t say I blame him. He was my last bit of hope I had for us getting a better coach.

Ha I just took the pole for starting QB and it’s funny that JaBust is the last place option for everyone to pick. I wonder who the 13 that said he should stick to starting QB. My only guess is they haven’t watched the game or they aren’t Raiders fans. haha
“GRUDEN TO RAIDERS NO LONGER AN OPTION” Not exactly true, his contract extends him in years, but nothin concrete after February. In another article, they say he has left room in case a good coaching job presents itself. Keywords “good coaching job”. So yeah maybe it’s far fetched.
we dont need new coach we need a QB with acuracy. not a fat slot who go’s clubbing instead working on getting better dumb his comtract hes a bust. garcia was on team we probly be in playoffs
You must be kidding. We don’t need a new coach, my ass. That’s what we need most. You can’t have a pathetic loser of a head coach with a history of losing more than seven games out of every ten he coaches and imagine it’s only the QB’s fault. Kiffin’s coaching staff had Russell looking like a NFL QB towards the end of last season. Tom Cable’s new coaching staff has him looking the the worst QB ever to play the game. There’s a reason Cable can only win two to three out of every ten he coaches, his game plans suck, his play calling sucks, he’s a horrible judge of talent, he can’t hire decent coaches for fear he’ll lose his job to them, and players don’t respect him enough to perform for him. If you don’t think this team needs a new coach you haven’t got a clue. Maybe with that in mind, you’d be a perfect offensive advisor to the idiot.
gruden acts younger than the players.his players gave up on him last year.his terminology is too hard for young QB’s to learn and be successful,right away.
a young veteran QB with a little experience is what the raiders need.JP LOSMAN,BRADY QUINN-players like that.draft clausen or max hall or colt mccoy,a QB that can move a little because the line won’t get any better.
Gruden is young enough to take a few years off and come back to coaching. Besides he is still getting paid 5 mil a year from the Bucs. Would you leave that situation to coach anyone right now ?

harbaugh turned us down last year.john madden is 40 years out of touch with the players.the players nowadays only know Madden as the guy the game was named after,no more,no less.give me Bob Stoops from Oklahoma,he likes to run up the score.i’ll take Charlie Weis as a off. coordinator-only.Mickey Andrews from FSU as a def. coord.there’s always DENNIS GREEN.

why is it coaches fault our fat slob QB cant complete a easy pass to a wide reciever that is wide open or he throws the ball 10yrds over his head or behind the WR route. its all about QB he is not a good QB n never will be. go by another diamond watch or ear ring j russ cause thats only thing shining in your career. i fill sorry for the 52 other players on team work so hard and they have a QB that scores 1 TD every 3-4 games. bench him he sucks. I’d be willing to bet if Gruden was offered enough money with a decent team (not Oakland) that there is a clause in the contract that would let him out. That said I wish Al would find a way to bring back Gruden and hire a GM.
Aside from the Russell issue, as a coach the biggest mistake cable has made and continues to make is acting as his own offensive coordinator.I don’t know why on earth he decided to call his own plays. He shouldn’t be calling the plays, he has enough to do. If he had a decent OC, he would be fine a HC, I think. Although he’d still have QB and WR issues.I would love to see Gruden come back of course, though I don’t see it. It would mean total rebuilding again if he were to return. We know he would only do it with a guarantee of autonomy as coach. If he got that,( I know fat chance) but if Al granted that, the team currently does NOT have the right personnel to run Gruden’s west coast offensive scheme.Talent or no.He would have to clean house on offense at least and start over.
For years Raider Fans have been willfully blind in claiming they had a lot of talent and all that they needed was Coaching. They do not have much talent. There is not ONE starter on Offense a top tier NFL Team would want on their team (ok, maybe Fargas).
On Defense, ya got Namdi and that is IT.
Fargas, Namdi, and Lechler.
Three F N quality NFL Players Coached by a guy who was a LOSER at F N Idaho and all hired by a crazy-ass owner who is out-of-touch and living in the past.

Yes, Provo, Yes! The problem with ANY new coach is that Davis holds the strings. As far as Gruden goes, the contract extension was just to keep him at ESPN for broadcasting, thereby keeping him away from competitors. I’m sure he has a clause that allows him to take another coaching opportunity if he wants it. Let the coaches coach Al. Let go old man. You’re in the HOF already. Give some one else a chance. If you love the Ray-duhs, set them free!
Oh wow what a surprise huh? Not!! Anyone with a shred of self respect wouldn’t work for a pos like Al Davis!!! He wants coaches that will lick his ass, not one that might actually think for himself! He may as well keep Cable as the coach next year,because as we know he’ll hire another hand puppet. Pizzaman, about three weeks ago I defended Cable against your comments about his coaching abillities. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve changed my position about Cable since then. You’re right he’s pretty much clueless!!! I feel stupid for thinking he might get this team on the winning track!
