Starting left guard Robert Gallery didn’t receive the news he hoped for in seeking a second opinion on his lower back strain. He learned that his injury will require surgery and necessitate him missing the rest of the season.
Gallery sustained his injury in the third quarter of Oakland’s 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Raiders coach Tom Cable said he is disappointed by Gallery’s season-ending injury.
“He’s a very good player and was playing good before he got hurt in Kansas City,” Cable said. “He comes back and gets back into groove and all that. So it’s disappointing for him and for our team. He’s not had these types of things that have kept him out of games in the past. It’s a tough pill to swallow but it’s the game and it does it to a lot of people.”

Gallery broke his leg in the second game of the season and missed six games. He also had an appendectomy a few weeks before the start of training camp and missed significant time during camp.

On the bright side, Cable said that Gallery’s injury isn’t career-threatening, though he isn’t sure just yet how serious the injury is or how long the recovery process will take.
Gallery was the No. 2 pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. He began his career as an offensive tackle but switched to guard in 2007 and carved out a niche as one of the league’s best guards.
He will be replaced by Chris Morris or Langston Walker, with Morris the option if Samson Satele is healthy enough to start at center.

Cable said that he is leaning toward signing offensive lineman Roy Schuening from the practice squad to take Gallery’s spot on the active roster.

Schuening was a fifth-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in the 2008 NFL Draft. He is 6-foot-3, 306 pounds, and was both an ESPN and Pro Football Weekly First Team All-American at guard in 2007. He was released by the Rams on Sept. 5, 2009, and the Raiders signed him to their practice squad two days later.

Let’s get real guys, he’s a good guard….nowadays, but I expected much more from him based on what round and pick he was drafted.

Too bad for us and him. He is a guy who has been through a lot- RT to LT to LG, too many coaching, coordinators and position coach changes without so much as a peep. Just went out and balled. He is a true warrior and a Pro Bowl caliber Lineman, if he played on a better team. Too bad he won’t be part of our revival this year. Looks like Middle Lineman on both sides of the ball just became more of a priority in the next draft.

  9. Silverdog says:

His draft position and field position are water under the bridge. He has reinvented himself into a pro-bowl calliber LG. This is a tough loss. Hopefully he gets well, and is ready to lace ‘em up and dominate next season. The right side of the line needs an upgrade, and of course the DL.

After watching Cleveland dominate Pittsburgh last night that win last week vs. The Steelers wasn’t as good as it first appeared. All it did was put The Raiders in the same rarified air as The Browns and The Chiefs. Ouw, big whoopie.

  11. Oak14nd says:

Yea I thought the same thing but we did beat bangles and philly tho and we have too play the browns this year

  12. FloRaider says:

Gallery is a Warrior , let’s talk about a PUSSY CB DeAngelo Hall (knee) out for Sunday’s game vs. Raiders. What a PUSSY. Scared to play in Oakland again. After all the shit he talked ! What a chump.

Gallerys huge for our run game. L. walker did a good job filling in, however were limited with him in. I think we will finish strong. Go Raiders
