CABLE SPOTTED AT TEAM HEADQUARTERS

RaiderBeat.com Staff Report

Raiders coach Tom Cable was at team headquarters Monday after all. However, he was there conducting player evaluations and not to meet with managing general partner Al Davis, as reported.

Cable left the premises just before 6 p.m. PST without speaking to reporters. He said last week at his year-end news conference that he spoke with Davis earlier that day and that they agreed to meet sometime this week.

Several reports speculated that Monday was the day. Alas, no meeting between Davis and Cable about Cable’s status as the coach went down Monday.

Cable hasn’t spoken since his year-end news conference. Several reports say that Davis is prepared to fire Cable for cause and hire someone else to coach the team next season.

For what it’s worth, Cable said he expects to be the Raiders coach next season, and he has widespread support from his players and coaches. Yet, it all comes down to what Davis decides.

Davis supposedly is upset with Cable over the lack of offensive production, the lack of development in quarterback JaMarcus Russell and the team’s overall inconsistency.

The lack in production doesn’t come from Tom Cable, it comes from JaMarcus’s lack of dedication to work out and learn the system. And any excuse Al Davis comes up w/ to remove Cable is bogus. As we all witnessed with a decent QB like Gradkowski the Raiders might have possibly come up w/ a 8-8 record and had a chance for the playoffs, or atleast a season w/ more than 5 wins since 2002. hey Raiderbeat Staff, you really think Al is upset with Cable’s lack of development of JaMarcus Russell? Doesn’t this fall upon Paul Hackett more than Tom Cable? Either way, all of these reports about Al preparing to fire Cable is heresay. Who really knows what Al wants to do?? He is a mystery in himself. No one knows what is going to happen. For all we know Al could have Art Shell and Mike White in the office right now interviewing them for the head coaching position!

  3. whatthehell says:

If Mr Davis fires Coach Cable without giving him a chance with a good QB, I will think seriously about removing the raider ink from my arm. and turn from the raiders to a more respectful team. I don’t know if I can or not having so many years invested but its getting hard to watch this team tear itself down. Wake up Mr Davis, or sell the team.

  4. whatthehell says:

Damn, Who am I kidding. I could never change teams no matter how bad it gets. I wish the team and organization was as dedicated as the fans.

  5. RetireAl says:

Lord Al will do what he wants and he will blame others for problems he caused.

He is not about to cut JaMarcus loose. Oakland has had one #1 Pick in the NFL Draft and Davis will NEVER admit he blew it.

So, Cable his history and the Raiders are bottom-feeding because no quality Coach wants to Coach for that Asshat.

  6. Raider-ddub says:

If the team leaders that play the game want Cable then keep him and hire a good O.C. Give him a chance with a good offensive coordinator then let Marshall impliment a modern day defense. I think that’s how all the other winning teams do it. Coaches coach and players play, personnel people evaluate personnel, and Owners don’t coach, owners don’t evaluate players, owners own.

  7. jedimunky says:

Anyone else see how good the defense was when they are a blitzing defense? We get beat a lot when we don’t blitz. Al Davis needs to hurry up and die already…..

  8. ernie72 says:

Rumors: WINSTON MOSS, next Raider head coach!

  9. seattle steve says:

Hurry up and wait/ what ever Al does will only disappoint us further/ we got to get rid of the cancer Known as JM or as I like to say the wizard of oz…why you ask, well like the straw man he has no brains, like the tin man he has no heart and like the lion he has no courage, he is slow and fat and a major dispappointment, he is the poster child for a true hard rookie salary cap.

  10. raiderron says:

Wheeee!! Another year another head coach!!

Lets see the next poor shlub who is willing to take this retched job.

Winston Moss? Yep, another highly touted assistant whose name was bandied about by gobs of other teams looking to fill their HC position (sarcasm)! Did he even get interviewed by another team?

And how long is it going to take this time to hire a nobody? Shouldn’t Al know by now weather or not Cable should be gone? If so fire him and get on with it! Jeez!

The best thing for this team would be if Al Davis were to fire himself for being so inept at hiring a decent coach or draft competent players!

I have never been so embarrassed to be a Raider fan and it all has to do with one person….Al Davis!

  11. raiderflex408 says:

if anyone notied the jags cut their tix prices, also a better team than us… Maybe al shud do the same sh*t if he dnt like being blacked out… C’mon even the browns sell out, evry team but the raiders listens to the hand that feeds them… Ridiculous, but raider nation forever. Raiders forever forever a raider

  12. lynchsingle says:

I for one will be very happy to see that fat piece of crap go.I could’t believe he hired him to begin with. He’s never won anywhere he’s been!!!! That’s committment to exccellence? We need a real coach who can call real plays!!!!

  13. lil says:

it baffles me when people say Al is not dedicated to winning, Iknow Al wants to win more than any of us can imagine. Some of this season is on Cable its not all on Russell, Cable could have evaluated our roster better and played players that would allow Russell to succeed (starting 2 rookie wideouts), better evaluated out Oline and benched Green, and had better play calling and getting or running backs more invovled. I want Cable to returned and hopefully he will learn from his mistakes just as JRuss!!

  14. timbrown4ever says:

    Lil
Do you really think Al would have let him play Javon Walker or Todd Watkins at WR at the beginning of the season???!?!? The answer is no. The other thing you recommended was that Cable benched Cornell Green, who would he have put in, Khalif Barnes? Oh thats right Barnes got beat everytime he played. Cable was coaching with 1 hand behind his back for 8 weeks. When he finally benched Russell, who has no work ethic and doesn’t care about being an nfl qb, the team responded and played better because Cable was allowed to coach.
Cable doesn’t make the personnel decisions, Al Davis does. Cable doesn’t have say of the final 53 man roster, Al Davis does. Yes Al Davis wants to win more than anyone in the building, but the fact is he has lost his touch. Keeping Cable is the only good option right now. Gruden isn’t coming to the rescue and no other coach has worked with Davis before. Winston Moss PLAYED for Davis but never coached for him. It is a difficult situation. Trust me my cousins on the team I know the situation. Cable isn’t the problem, Al Davis needs to let the coach run his system a little more and let him have input on the final 53 man roster. If that doesn’t happen soon, I am sorry to say we may have another tough 5 years atleast. Hiring a new coach is not the option, because WAKE UP FELLOW RAIDERS FANS Jon Gruden isn’t coming, Cable is the best option we have right now because he WANTS TO BE THE COACH and not use it a stepping stone unlike other coaches. Enough Said

TB4ever, well done, i feel exactly the same, wouldnt have even posted but wanted to give credit where credit is due.
and jamarcus aka “lil”, you a BUST, please go away. please.
this is bruce’s team and the team showed it.

  16. Jon says:

I think it’s funny how Davis has all the media twisting in the wind. Waiting for him to fire Cable so they have something to report. Everyone speculating when it will happen.

Meanwhile, Cable is going about his business preparing for free agency and the draft. All is quiet and my guess is that it will stay that way. The media is waiting for this big announcement but in reality there will be nothing said if Cable stays on board. It’s not like Davis will come out and say, “Tom Cable is my head coach.” Why should he?

  17. timbrown4ever says:

Thank you DestroySD I really hope we FINALLY beat them next season its been what 13 times in a row that we’ve lost that needs to stop!

  18. raidermomo64 says:

Damn Ernie that frustrates me. I heard the same thing from a buddy of mine. A Raiders fan down in the L.A. area. He said that that was the rumor. I hope not…… I’d rather have Harbaugh if not Cable…..Al don’t make me mad…..

  19. glclemg says:

Players evaluation, huh? Let’s see, you suck! you suck! You suck and you suck! (Tom Cable’s evaluation)

  20. Silverdog says:

If Winston Moss has been interviewed that is a concern because

    1) Maybe they are going to make a coaching change.

    2) The Rooney Rule has been satisfied.
